Dreams, Glamping, 3D Printers & Bougie Wine Clubs | Ep 40

Mitchell Milliron

Sometimes a dream is just a dream. Sometimes it involves Christian Bale, a secret friendship, social-media secrecy, and an awkward conversation about CPAP machines.

Welcome to Episode 40 of Doing the Most with Scarlet and Mitchell, where we discuss all of that, plus making friends as adults, parenting an apprehensive five-year-old, glamping on the Oregon coast, chickens that still refuse to earn their keep, a rapidly expanding collection of 3D-printed clutter, and our latest adventure into Oregon wine country.

In This Episode

What does that dream mean?

Mitchell starts things off with a bizarre dream involving Christian Bale, a mysterious group of "guys," a secret invitation to hang out, and a strict no-social-media-posting policy.

Naturally, this leads to the much bigger question: Do dreams actually mean something, or is our brain just throwing random ingredients into the blender while we sleep?

Scarlet has a theory that maybe the dream connects to a recent conversation about making friends and getting out of the house. Mitchell isn't entirely convinced, but he does spend a surprising amount of time wondering why Christian Bale showed up specifically.

There is also a brief discussion of CPAP machines, because apparently even celebrity dreams aren't immune to real-life concerns.

Making friends as an adult is hard

The Christian Bale dream turns into a conversation about friendship, particularly how much harder it becomes to maintain friendships once work, kids, childcare, and everyday life enter the picture.

Scarlet talks about how stressful it feels to consider going out to karaoke with friends as an introvert. Mitchell reflects on friendships that have become long-distance or occasional, where months or even years can pass without seeing each other but the connection still feels comfortable.

And then there is the unavoidable question: Are we supposed to become friends with the other parents?

Maybe not.

The chicken update

We still have five chickens.

We still have no eggs.

One chicken previously escaped over the fence into the neighbor's yard, which led to some backyard chicken drama. The solution has now included clipped wings, although the chickens have demonstrated that they can still get a little airborne.

So that's where things stand in the chicken department.

Fall, Oregon gardens, and a little romaine mystery

Fall is arriving in Oregon, which Scarlet loves, at least until the rain arrives and the leaves disappear after approximately one good gust of wind.

The garden is winding down, with tomatoes making a respectable appearance and a whole lot of romaine somehow existing both inside the refrigerator and outside in the garden without necessarily doing what it is supposed to do.

Glamping on the Oregon coast

Our anniversary plans took an unexpected turn, and instead of the original destination, we headed to the Oregon coast for a little glamping.

We stayed in a cabin at the KOA near Warrenton and Fort Stevens, complete with:

  • Indoor and outdoor pools
  • Hot tubs
  • Mini golf
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • A playground
  • The legendary jumping pillow
  • A fire pit
  • Wi-Fi
  • And, most importantly, actual plumbing

Scarlet explains why traditional tent camping isn't exactly her preferred vacation experience. She likes electricity, heat when it's cold, air conditioning when it's hot, and running water.

Mitchell, meanwhile, admits that his definition of camping has historically involved hiking into remote locations, setting up a tent, finding firewood, and generally making things harder than they need to be.

With a five-year-old in the mix, glamping starts looking pretty appealing.

We also talk about exploring more of Astoria, Fort Stevens, the Peter Iredale shipwreck, and why the Oregon coast has plenty more to discover.

Parenting an apprehensive kid

Our trip also gets us talking about Max and his tendency to be hesitant about exploring new things.

We wonder whether that's simply part of his personality, something we've encouraged through our parenting, or perhaps a result of being an only child without a neighborhood full of kids to run around with.

It leads to a bigger discussion about how different childhood can look today compared with when we were kids, when simply going outside often meant finding a bunch of other neighborhood kids to play with.

The 3D printer has entered the house

Mitchell bought a new 3D printer.

Scarlet is thrilled.

Well... perhaps "thrilled" isn't quite the word.

The purchase leads to a spirited discussion about clutter, creating things, engineering, designing, testing, problem-solving, and why Mitchell finds the entire process incredibly satisfying.

Scarlet, meanwhile, has noticed that the house is accumulating little 3D-printed objects.

There may also have been some discarded benchmark prints.

This remains a sensitive subject.

Our new wine club

We also talk about our visit to Lucid Wild, which became our latest adventure in Oregon wine country.

After previously belonging to another wine club, we hadn't been doing a lot of wine tasting lately. Then Scarlet discovered Lucid Wild and booked a visit for our anniversary celebration.

The experience included wine paired with food, beautiful grounds, thoughtful service, and plenty of details that made the experience feel special.

We ended up becoming members.

Naturally.

We also talk about the property's events, the wine cave, the speakeasy, the Sky Terrace, the animals on the property, and the winery's approach to working with the land.

There is also some confusion about exactly which membership benefits we have and what events we can attend, so if you're listening and happen to know how the Lucid Wild membership works, you may be able to save us from ourselves.

One last Oregon adventure

We wrap up with a brief discussion about Cascada and how much busier it may have become since we first talked about it.

Scarlet heard from someone who visited on a weekday and found it crowded, which raises the question of how the reservation system handles capacity and whether our next visit will feel quite as peaceful as previous experiences.

We'll find out.

The Bottom Line

Episode 40 is a little bit of everything: a strange dream, a conversation about friendship, family and parenting, an Oregon coast getaway, chickens that refuse to contribute to the household economy, a new 3D-printing obsession, and another expensive-but-enjoyable step into Oregon wine country.

In other words, pretty much exactly what you'd expect from Doing the Most with Scarlet and Mitchell.

Until next time, we're Scarlet and Mitchell...

And we're Doing the Most.

Mitchell has a very strange dream involving Christian Bale, secret celebrity friendships, and a strict no-social-media-posting policy. Naturally, this leads to a conversation about dreams, friendship, and the surprisingly complicated business of making friends as an adult.

Then there are chickens that refuse to earn their keep, a garden that is slowly becoming fall-ish, and an anniversary adventure that turns into glamping on the Oregon coast. Think cabins, hot tubs, mini golf, playgrounds, fire pits, and the question: if you have Wi-Fi and plumbing, is it really camping?

Meanwhile, a new 3D printer enters the house and immediately begins producing both useful things and additional clutter. And just when things seem sufficiently chaotic, Scarlet and Mitchell join a new wine club at Lucid Wild, complete with wine tastings, food pairings, a wine cave, a speakeasy, sheep, beautiful grounds, and a membership they are still trying to understand.

Also: Cascada, Oregon, the eternal struggle between introverts and social activities, and the continuing realization that apparently we are, once again, doing the most.

Mitchell
Yeah, see what you’re thinking No filter.

Scarlet
That’s why I asked. When I came down here. When was Are you gonna shower today?

Mitchell
I am. I will. Okay, that’s off to a rockin’ good start, everybody.

Welcome to the podcast Doing the Most with Scarlet and Mitchell. I’m Mitchell and I’m sitting here with Scarlet I would say you’re accusing me of that showering, but it’s not an accusation, it’s just a statement of fact. Yes, I didn’t shower yesterday.

I haven’t showered today because I’m trying to get the podcast out. It’s all about the art here, okay people? If you’re joining us for the first time, welcome.

Welcome aboard You can watch you can watch the train wreck train wreck on YouTube.

Scarlet
Yeah, don’t watch this one.

Mitchell
Why?

Scarlet
Because you look gross.

Mitchell
Wow.

Scarlet
Just a little

Mitchell
bit. Well I mean I mean it is, but it’s not people that aren’t tuning in to watch this show

Scarlet
Okay.

Mitchell
They I thought I I mean they watched the little snippet videos. Okay.

Scarlet
Yeah.

Mitchell
This this you know this pod podcast, vidcast, the people say vidcast, this uh thing, whatever it is that we’re doing. It is. Can you hear okay?

By the way. It is I like to meet it’s kind of like uh oh I had a little phrase thought up and I totally forgot. It was like It’s like I don’t want to use it to say it’s a cautionary tale, but it’s like at most this serves as a warning to others and Oh no, that’s what it was.

It was something like this. I should have thought this out before I spoke, but that’s okay. It was like, oh Doing the most with Scarlet Mitchell.

It’s like a it’s a at the most it’s a cautionary tale for others, and at the least it’s just like a cry for help from me. Uh So, but I’ll work on that. A cautionary tale, that’s what I used to use on my other broadcast.

So I don’t want to reuse that. It’s like a it’s a warning. Oh, there you go.

It’s like Our podcast is a warning to others at the most and at the least it’s a cry for help from me. So let’s just get into the cries and the help, shall we? I woke up this morning Oh my I don’t know if it was 4 a. m. It doesn’t matter what time.

It was not before the time I was actually getting up. And I had had this dream. And it was one of those like dreams that was um It was well when you well I’ll tell you the dream, but it’s uh realistic enough that at the moment I was kinda like what’s the word semi -confused or like you know kind of like Processing and then I realized it was just a dream, and then I kinda had that moment of like, like, I don’t know, it’s just a weird dream.

Okay, here was the dream. I was I was talking I had somehow I was talking to Christian Bale on the phone. And he was like, Oh, and I was just saying, like, yeah, I really I really want to like hang out with you guys, like your face.

I was just Like, hey, I really want to hang out. Like we you know, we should hang out. I think that would be like, I don’t know, just me and you and the guys.

I whoever these guys are, right? And I was just like talking to him about hanging out and he’s like, Yeah, okay. And then suddenly, like, you know how dreams are, he was in bed with me.

Like Like well no, I mean like like a couple sits in bed, you know, where like we do, where you’re leaning up, you’re sitting up, and you’re talking, right? But you’re both and he’s like yeah, he was just and he’s saying like yeah, we could I mean, I could see hanging out, hanging out with the guys, but he was like he’s very adamant. He’s like, You can’t like post i no one can know.

You can’t post any of this on social media and I was like I listen, Christian. Then I never thinking, should I be calling him Mr. Bale? But I was like, look, I was like, Christian, I’m totally not gonna post any of this.

Have you seen my social media accounts? I don’t post anything. I’m not on Facebook.

I was like I barely I said I don’t I said I don’t even know if you post. I said I don’t even think I follow you, even if you are. I was just kinda like pleading my case of like no no no I’m totally not gonna I’m not gonna tell anyone that we’re hanging out, me and you and the guys, whoever the guys are, I don’t know.

Um but that was like, you know, it was like yeah, no, no. Like I was trying to convince him, he was like, Yeah, he’s like me I could he was like he was going for it and then at one moment it was kinda like he was really close to me, like still sitting And like I remember thinking like, oh I hope he’s like like I don’t want him to think I’m trying to cuddle with him. I’m just trying to talk with him about this idea of hanging out a little more. Like we’re gonna hang out And it’d be cool.

And then um and he was really he was just kind of ho-humming like whether he thought it was a good idea. Like he was afraid I was gonna tell everyone that we’re hanging out Anyways and then I woke up and I kinda that moment was like, do I brought just doing that like do I know Christian Bale? Like did I have and then of course my brain’s like, well no duh But and for anyone who doesn’t actually know, I don’t know Christian Bale.

But

Scarlet
Well Him

Mitchell
or We are he’s in the group of people that are like my age and like within a month of my age. That’s how close he is. You know, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale.

Um Bradley Cooper. These are all like people that are my age. Um and I don’t know if that’s who my mind, who the guys were.

But so it was just a strange dream and I remember thinking, why why is I was like, why is Christian Bale manifesting in my my psyche or my dream. Like, what is that all about? Like I couldn’t quite figure it out.

And it was the Christian Bale that has a little bit of a beard and the brown hair and like I I’m not sure

Scarlet
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him with a beard.

Mitchell
Oh really He’s frequently anyway so then so the thought here is why does this apply to the podcast? It was like the kind of idea that sometimes I think like our dreams do dreams have meaning? And uh versus are dreams meaningful?

And then versus just like because part of me is like, you know, my brain concocted this, right? Dreams don’t well maybe, maybe you might Dreams don’t just come from nothing, right? I don’t think.

Dreams have they come from our own brain or I mean I’m gonna argue yeah that, but that’s what I’m saying. You could say, oh maybe not. Um so like why does that dream actually is it meaningful or does it have meaning?

That’s kind of one of those weird like I don’t know If it has meaning, is it meaningful? Not really, but does it have meaning? Like what is it saying?

What is my brain? What was it even about? And again, maybe it was a meaningless dream.

What do you think about dreams?

Scarlet
Oh. That’s the part where you could talk.

Mitchell
Oh never mind about how I recambly question. I recant my previous question.

Scarlet
It depends. I don’t know. Like sometimes I feel like maybe they have some sort of subconscious meaning, but then a dream like that Just seems kind of random. Or who is Christian Bale representing? Yeah.

Mitchell
Like is

Scarlet
he representing the friends you don’t have? Because I was talking to you last night about going out to karaoke with friends and you were like, oh, and then going out to wine tasting with friends and you’re like, oh, so this is the month that you just I I forget what you said, but

Mitchell
or you start branching out or something like that. I was like saying like, oh, you’re gonna just start branching out.

Scarlet
You don’t know how hard this is for me. Like how much this karaoke thing is like stressing me out and how on the line I am about actually going.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
So Um while you would be like, oh yeah, like if you didn’t have to work tomorrow and we could just like leave the kids at home. You’d be like, oh yeah, let me go. Like, let’s do it. And for me, the thought of going by myself, I’m like, my shoulders are super tense. And because I’m I’m an introvert, I would rather just stay home. And

Mitchell
do a zoom call for the karaoke?

Scarlet
Yeah. Wait, yeah, call in.

Mitchell
So your my dream’s about you. Or it’s all about. No, I’m just kidding. Um

Scarlet
interesting.

Mitchell
I hadn’t really thought I forgot about our conversation about you going out with friends. And so okay. I mean not that I’m here to not

Scarlet
be I’m like way off, but

Mitchell
we don’t have to dissect the dream ’cause it is injuries and how dreams sometimes mirror something. You can like pinpoint things like, Oh yeah, that happened in the day and that and that. I’ve forgotten about that component. It’s just so weird that it was Christian Bale, who’s not

Scarlet
I know. I don’t know what that’s about.

Mitchell
Elon McGrangor’s my secret crush. Like he’s my all-time I think I can hang out with him Christian Bale seems like he’d be a hard hangout, to be honest with you.

Scarlet
Yeah.

Mitchell
He seems like he’d

Scarlet
seem kinda rude.

Mitchell
Well, I no, because if he’s listening, by the way, Christian, if you are listening, I just you never know. Goodness. You never know This there are people who listen to this in the UK. Um, maybe maybe he just comes across I think he’s just real professional. Like He’s I think he’s just real about the business.

Scarlet
Was he talking to you in his regular like British accent?

Mitchell
You know, I think he was not I think he was talking in his American accent in my dream. But I don’t recall because I just remember it was a lot of back and forth. He was just like, yeah, I don’t know.

I was like, oh come on, man. I was like, we can like I’m totally I was just he it was so strange that the social media was his biggest concern. Like and I don’t know what that says where I’m like is he embarrassed about me?

Is Christian Bale embarrassed to be my friend? Is that why we’re not friends I don’t know. I’m just saying like or is it about social media?

Anyways, it was a weird dream, especially the part where we’re in bed, but not bed like that. I mean it sounds weird to say it out loud, but like where we’re just And I cause I remember thinking, well, I gotta go to bed and then I was and then I’d forgotten about this part. And I was embarrassed ’cause I thought I have a CPAP machine and I was embarrassed to put the CPAP on because I thought and I remember thinking, of course Christian Bale doesn’t have a CPAP, he’s perfect.

And then I thought he does and I thought what if he was like, Oh, yeah, oh you’ve got a CPAP too, you know like That’s not how he talks, but like I remember that kinda kinda woke up, but I don’t know if I didn’t have my CPAP on or something. Anyways, so if you’re listening, Christian, totally cool to be friends. I’m not gonna post about it on social media I’ll delete this episode if you reach out to me.

Anyway, there we go. That was just my advice.

Scarlet
By the way, I’m not saying you don’t have any friends. I’m just saying like

Mitchell
Well I’m saying I don’t have any friends.

Scarlet
But you do. It’s just your friends are kind of spread out And like it’s so hard even for me to coordinate like getting together when most of my friends I work with finding a day that we have off together where we can all coordinate childcare is like so difficult. Cause like, sure, when you back in the day when you were like Single, didn’t have kids, no, not even necessarily single, but just like kids make it just so much more difficult.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
Because

Mitchell
Kids are your new friends.

Scarlet
Yeah.

Mitchell
Oof, you’re gonna keep it.

Scarlet
And not fun ones all the time. Sorry.

Mitchell
Yeah, no, that’s okay. I’m not upset. I’m more I keep hearing the the phone noise.

It doesn’t matter. Um the in the microphones. I don’t care.

I don’t care people if you’re listening Christian. I’m sorry about the phone noise. Um so You’re right.

It is maintaining an estate having friendships is hard, which is like my friends that I do have are the ones that I can talk to, you know, once a year or once every two years and

Scarlet
And they live in different states.

Mitchell
And we are just w there’s no like it’s the classic. We pick up as if nothing there was no gaps. I mean, you know, we were like, hey, you know but I’m just saying it’s never awkward, it’s just like hey, you know, like it was as if we were hanging out yesterday.

Which I don’t that’s a that’s a good kind of friend but I it’s not as deep as a friendship. Although you know, I I don’t know I both of them live in Utah, my my long distance few and far between. I have some local friends that I don’t I don’t know, every now and then I’ll get a text from uh Scott who ‘ll be like, hey, we should go get coffee sometime and then I’m like, Yeah, and then we don’t. And I don’t put that on him, I put it on me.

But it is yeah. When do friends or then once the kids like ’cause then I feel like then the friendship then eventually you’re like, oh and now Are we supposed to be friends with other dance moms now? No. Okay.

No, just throwing that out there. Anyway, so friends.

Scarlet
Cause yesterday I

Mitchell
Realized.

Scarlet
Heard another girl come up to the other dance mom and be like, Oh, congratulations on No.

Mitchell
I don’t

Scarlet
I can’t go. On your son getting baptized. Mm. And I was like, ew.

Mitchell
Well That’s enough of that. Quick chicken update. Just because.

Scarlet
Oh

Mitchell
Uh we still have five chickens and no eggs. That’s the update.

Scarlet
Oh, okay.

Mitchell
Well people ask me at work all the time. Well, what’s up with the chickens? Like, I don’t know.

We have five of them. Uh beyond that, we did have one escape a few weeks ago, like flew up on the fence and then jumped down in the neighbor’s yard. And I was like, whoa no and the door the back gate was locked and it was a little bit of a meltdown.

We got her back and then we

Scarlet
Clipped or wings.

Mitchell
Clipped wings. We begin a wing clipping as the chicken updating. So have clipped wings. The other two did fly a smidge today, but not Not more than maybe three feet off the ground.

Scarlet
They’re a little hefty.

Mitchell
Yeah. So I’m just saying that’s the chicken update. We are moving into fall, people, which is Scarlet’s favorite time of year, I believe, right? I thought you loved fall.

Scarlet
Yes. Not all the time in Oregon because it usually means rain.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
And one gust of wind comes and all the leaves are gone and it’s over.

Mitchell
Falls one day here. So I mean the the technical portion of fall where the leaves are coming down. So we’re moving into fall which means our garden is also moving into fall and the garden update is we got tomatoes quite a bit a good fair share and Um I can’t see my all my romaine that’s supposed to be for this.

I don’t know why. I got a whole bucket full of romaine in the refrigerator. There’s more romaine that won’t seem to grow outside, but that’s okay.

Scarlet
I don’t know. Oh, yeah.

Mitchell
You keep doing this look like as I thought, is there some romaine in the room here? Like you the way your eyes are darting around I was like, there’s romaine in here? Is there something I don’t know about romaine?

I know the Coke Zero is there. Listen, okay, that’s the chicken update, the garden update fall. We’re done with that.

Moving along. And this episode, by the way, is delayed, but not to the listener, except for maybe by a day, because we were gone out of town. Last when we normally record.

Scarlet
Yes. Not to where I wanted to be.

Mitchell
Oh.

Scarlet
We had to Zag.

Mitchell
Yeah. You wanted to be celebrating our anniversary at Cascada, which we’ve talked about before. And uh we had to kind of zag and we went instead glamping, right?

Scarlet
We did.

Mitchell
And is that I thought you it was I’ve never been glamping at that level of glamping.

Scarlet
Okay. Well there are other levels of glamping that are like way

Mitchell
Glampier?

Scarlet
Glampier, yeah.

Mitchell
And that comes from glamorous camping? Glamour camping? Is that where we get that word?

I don’t know. That’s one way I feel like we think that’s what it is. And we know what it is, but I don’t know if that’s where glamping came from.

Um, I’ve never been a glamper per se. Like for me, glamping, the extent of my glamping history is the classic Roll up in a vehicle, you open the back of your vehicle, which is four feet from the tent site, you throw a tent out, and you’re can sit in your vehicle while you make a fire practically, but that’s about it Like I I come from a l I prefer the we gotta hike, you know, seven miles into a remote location and uh being a tent and all that kind of jazz, which with a five year old sounds like the worst idea on the planet. So I mean the glamping worked out.

We did a KOA, which I’ve never been to because my growing up we couldn’t afford a KOA.

Scarlet
KOA Warrington Astoria.

Mitchell
And it’s a resort KOA.

Scarlet
And if you have kids, wonderful.

Mitchell
Yeah, it’s um

Scarlet
in the summer it’s probably

Mitchell
packed

Scarlet
even better. And yes, probably super Hard to get into.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
I imagine.

Mitchell
It’s got a indoor pool, outdoor pool. Indoor hot tub, outdoor hot tub. Miniature golf.

Uh tennis. No, not tennis court. Uh basketball court.

Volleyball court

Scarlet
Did you say mini golf?

Mitchell
I think so. Oh okay. You could say it again. Um

Scarlet
the jumping pillow.

Mitchell
Oh yeah. The jumping pillow. Big time.

Scarlet
Oh my

Mitchell
Inflatable object kids can jump on. Like a tr safe trampoline.

Scarlet
Playground.

Mitchell
Yeah, playground.

Scarlet
And it’s all right there together. Horseshoe. Except for the indoor pools, like a little bit of a walk, but Or the fun zone is right there together, which was right by our cabin. Mm-hmm.

Mitchell
Sorry.

Scarlet
So

Mitchell
You gotta get used to talking when I’m slipping down the coke.

Scarlet
And we stayed in a cabin because we don’t have an RV.

Mitchell
Yep. And

Scarlet
I didn’t wanna do a tent because I’m sorry, I’m not built like that. I’m just not.

Mitchell
Well, I

Scarlet
‘m too bougie and I like power and I like some heat when it’s cold and I like some air when it’s hot.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
And I like running water So

Mitchell
it was

Scarlet
stay in the cabin and there are tiers of cabins. There are cabins with no bathrooms and you have to bring your own linens. We didn’t do that one. And then we did the probably like the third from the top.

Mitchell
Oh. What did it did the other bigger, more room and Do they make a more complete kitchen in the upper echelon of cabins?

Scarlet
I don’t think so. I think it was still like a microwave mini fridge

Mitchell
situation. It was uh it worked.

Scarlet
And So our cabin had linens , towels , hair um hairdryer,

Mitchell
TV, Wi-Fi.

Scarlet
Yeah, their Wi-Fi was great. Um This is so crazy.

Mitchell
Yeah. Um

Scarlet
a nice outdoor fire pit that you know like Picnic

Mitchell
table or like a table out there. Yeah.

Scarlet
Fire.

Mitchell
Little porch up there.

Scarlet
Yeah. It was would definitely do it again.

Mitchell
Yeah. Now, was it reasonably priced per night? I don’t know.

Scarlet
I don’t know how much it is in peak season. I don’t know if this I’m I don’t think this was a peak season. It was pretty empty. Also it was a weekday.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
So I don’t know how it is on the weekends. But it was like $2. 40 a night without taxes and fees.

Mitchell
Okay. So, you know, comparable.

Scarlet
Probably kind of expensive. But I think everything’s just expensive these days.

Mitchell
Yeah. I mean so comparable to a hotel maybe that has some similar amenities, but But a hotel’s not gonna have the jump pad. So it’s but you still get the outdoor experience.

Which is kind of it has its place. I’m just saying I’m I’m just implying like even though it might seem a little expensive to some, it’s like, oh it’s great. We were right by the coast Because if you’re in a hotel, I feel like you’d like to do that.

Scarlet
Yes, because I did look at staying at the cannery on the pier.

Mitchell
At Astoria.

Scarlet
Which we saw. Mm-hmm. And it’s beautiful. But and and was like kind of the same price, maybe like slightly more expensive.

Mitchell
Right.

Scarlet
And I was like, okay, well what could we stay here? And then I was looking at it and I’m like, well this is nice and all But what is Max gonna do?

Mitchell
Yeah. And we and this was nice, I feel like if he got once he’s a little older he’ll be a little more less apprehensive to explore the play area ’cause we were like, just go Be a kid, go across.

Scarlet
Is this our fault? We have a very apprehensive child.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
And I don’t know if that’s A personality thing for him, or if that’s something we’ve instilled in.

Mitchell
We’ve nurtured. Yeah. It’s hard to say.

Scarlet
We always talk about how we were as kids and how And you know, and it might be a product of him like not having a sibling to go explore with, where he might feel more comfortable, which kind of makes me like sad for him. He might be more like, yeah, let’s go like do this together and that. So then the burden of like his entertainment falls on us.

Mitchell
Right.

Scarlet
Which I think is why we tend to get frustrated with him

Mitchell
Right.

Scarlet
A lot.

Mitchell
Well, I also think like I grew up in the neighborhood I was in, most m many not say most, many of the other neighboring people Had kids in the same range. So like I’d be outside playing with other kids of my age. Whereas on our street I don’t know that we have anyone super close. I mean there’s a few maybe a street over, right?

Scarlet
Yeah.

Mitchell
TJ and whatever. But like I guess I’m saying and I ran around in my neighborhood in the Midwest with kids all the time. I guess there’s also I think there’s an element of the neighborhood we’re in. It’s not that it it’s just not conducive to where I would feel comfortable. Well one, he ‘s nobody his age.

Scarlet
We live by the high school and kids drive like idiots.

Mitchell
Yeah. So there’s kinda that I guess as well. So I wish yeah.

Anyway, so The glamping though it was fun. And we were and where we were at, you’re close to the coast and you’re close to an interesting spot on the Oregon coast, because there’s not a lot of places on the Oregon coast Oregon coast where you can drive your vehicle actually Uh people may or may not know this. ‘Cause like down at like Sand Lake and then Astoria well Sea S Seesa not excuse me.

Scarlet
Which we failed to mention the KO eight is right across from Fort Stevens.

Mitchell
Yeah, like Literally. You cr it’s at the same intersection.

Scarlet
You guys have probably if you’ve been to Fort Stevens, you’ve seen it. Yeah. You’ve probably stopped at the KOA store.

Mitchell
And you can go drive onto the beach in one area, or you can go regularly see the Peter Iredell, which is a shipwreck on the beach. If you’re from Oregon, you’ve already been there. If you’re not, you’re probably not coming here for this.

But it was a good actually we we kinda decided we need to explore Astoria more. Because we didn’t like get until the day three to the little walking well mean the river walk area and realize how far down you go to get even more shots. So in good little spots.

So more to explore there. Have generally don’t go there ’cause it’s a good two plus hours to get to Astoria. Just a little over two hours.

Whereas you can get to Seaside in an hour and a half or The round there, so I think that’s why it’s the quicker one for us. But anyway, so any more thoughts on your glamping trip?

Scarlet
I don’t think so.

Mitchell
I mean it worked out because originally I was like, well, we’re not doing real camping because then I was like, I’m gonna buy our new big tent and this and that. But I forget that on real camping like if you’re doing real camping, the activity is the camping. It’s setting up the tent.

It’s finding firewood. It’s lighting a fire It’s surviving is the activities of the day. And then you sleep like crud ’cause you’re like on the ground and you’re the cop Cold or you’re all in a tent, they gets all kind of clammy over there.

Scarlet
How is this fun?

Mitchell
Well it’s fun when you’re by yourself or you’re like hiking with people, maybe. I don’t know.

Scarlet
Like I I don’t get it.

Mitchell
Christian and I were talking about camping.

Scarlet
I don’t get it.

Mitchell
Okay, in the future, I’m just saying. Um so no what I’m what I am saying is my original thought was like, oh, I want to do real camping When we were out there I was like, Yeah, real camping would have stunk with both you and Max because you would have been like, This is so stupid, why now ’cause I mean, we still got the experience of smelling like a campfire for, you know, four days afterwards, which Yeah, who doesn’t love that, right? That smoked feeling.

Uh anyway. Okay. You got more on your list?

You had some list ideas. Because I have. We’ve never talked about my new 3D printer.

Well, all and all I want and there’s not a lot to talk about. What I’m gonna what I would say is listen, folks We are always talking about doing the most and having so much junk around the house and just clutter and everything. And I went out and I was like, I’m gonna buy a machine Where I can print my own clutter right in the comfort of my own home.

So now there can be more

Scarlet
spot for me.

Mitchell
Ooh, should I have not brought it up? I don’t know. I’m already got some more projects going on. I just have to pause the printing for the For the podcast. I love it.

Scarlet
Like I’m just looking at this junk over here right now.

Mitchell
What what do you mean junk That container on the top? That’s where I put the scraps of stuff.

Scarlet
Okay, what’s that thing next to it?

Mitchell
It’s a scraper for cleaning off the printing plate. That’s it. I mean Yeah. And I I

Scarlet
you had two of those ships things. I came in one day and I threw ’em away.

Mitchell
Wait. Oh no. Those are both those are benchmarks. I use them like To test against they’re not for toys, they’re actually a benchmark. It’s literally a benchmark.

Scarlet
You said it was a test.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
You said that It prints as a test.

Mitchell
Right, and so I keep those because I have two materials and two different things then I can compare against other things. You really threw those especially the one of them is they’re like the very first thing that comes off of there, so it’s like a okay. Moving along.

Scarlet
Can you not print another?

Mitchell
No, it’s not it’s it’s because it’s the very first one off of the machine. So now I have a way to calibrate and look at against anything if I ever need to test if the machine is getting it’s okay. I’m gonna just forget that you said that. Okay, what else?

Scarlet
Okay, now I feel like you’re just messing with Other manner of just around the house. Um , how long ago was this?

Mitchell
H long ago can I go dig through a garbage for this?

Scarlet
Oh no, it was uh quite some time ago

Mitchell
Okay, so anywho. It doesn’t matter. It’s it’s gone.

It’s just it’s irritating that. It’s just irritating. Anyway.

So well I’m not recording re-recording this episode. We have too many of these episodes in a special stash because they come unglued near the end for some reason and then

Scarlet
They came unglued, folks.

Mitchell
It’s okay. You shouldn’t uh I mean I’ll uh anyway. They make a new product that’s really cool too.

So And I don’t want to be always driving. You have nothing on your mind anymore? What are you doing here?

Scarlet
What else do you want me to I have I get nothing out of this three D printer.

Mitchell
I’m you got a scoop For the chickens.

Scarlet
I got three scoops and only I still just use the one that I bought from the store.

Mitchell
Oh.

Scarlet
mostly. ‘Cause the other one doesn’t hold the amount that I need.

Mitchell
Okay. Okay. So, what else?

I’m over the three D printer. Uh this is just gonna be another crap episode. So um You had did you put anything on a list?

I always put a list. We talked about my dream. Christian, by the way, if you’re into 3D printing, buddy.

We can do it. We can 3D print. Just letting you know, Christian, if you’re listening.

Scarlet
No, I’m just wondering, okay, why did you feel like you needed a three D printer? Because we already had one. We still have it. I don’t know why we still have it. ‘Cause it’s taking up quite a bit of space and looks

Mitchell
wait till the new one arrives. I like It’s because it’s creating, it’s making stuff. Like you have things you enjoy.

You enjoy watching certain shows. I do not just enjoy sitting I like creating and designing and thinking and like solving little problems. For me, that’s very fun.

It’s fulfilling. It’s like So I when I have an idea, I think of it and I’ll say, I’m gonna design it. And it means I have to use uh a software which is engineering, which I love doing all the math and that kind of stuff.

And then I enjoy seeing the product and come out and whether it’s right or wrong and then retesting it. And then I enjoy that. It’s creation.

It’s 3D printing and it’s very fun to me to create and build and do stuff.

Scarlet
Okay. So I’m the problem. Why

Mitchell
do you mean you’re the

Scarlet
do I like dislike this thing so much?

Mitchell
I don’t know. The screen is too small to watch a TV show on? I don’t know.

Scarlet
Well, no, because like Max will be like Look what look what so-and-so just printed me. Look at this. I’ll find random knickknacks on top of the doorbell thing. Two things on the TV. I threw them away.

Mitchell
They’re recyclable actually.

Scarlet
I recycled them. I didn’t just throw them in the garbage.

Mitchell
I mean you can just say that if it makes you

Scarlet
no, I remembered after you told me. So I I felt like okay now this 3D printer and now there’s like this passive aggressiveness going on in my house because

Mitchell
not by me

Scarlet
Okay.

Mitchell
What?

Scarlet
I know. Someone else. So, anyways, Lucid Wild

Mitchell
Yes, our new wine club. Oh, that’s all you had to say about it? You can elaborate. Oh

Scarlet
goodness.

Mitchell
We used to be members of Willamette Valley Vineyards and Were we still members when we started this podcast? I don’t think so. I don’t know.

Scarlet
No, I don’t think so.

Mitchell
We had been members of another wine club

Scarlet
Everybody knows the Lamette Valley. They sell their stuff at Costco.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
It’s fine.

Mitchell
Why no? I’m just saying we had done that wine club which was

Scarlet
they kind of like slighted us because we were like paying money every month and then we were going to the one in Lake Oswego and they were like, Oh, like if you don’t buy wine or cases of w or whatever. They were like, you can put whatever your you’ve paid for your membership towards your meal and then They started getting weird about it and we’d be like, oh no, we thought we could put our membership money towards this meal and they’re like, Oh, um, well, you know. And then that’s when we were like, okay Maybe we don’t want to do this anymore.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
Because they also had really great food for a while.

Mitchell
Yeah.

Scarlet
But then it kind of started going downhill.

Mitchell
Yeah, and then there was like that time I didn’t have a very the steak was cruddy and I let ’em know and they were like, Well come back in, let us make you another meal and I think at that point we were just kinda already over. Oh yeah, the cut of meat

Scarlet
the cut of meat was still

Mitchell
terrible. Bad. That was out of Happy Valley, I believe, right?

Scarlet
Yes.

Mitchell
And they were like and that was where it was also yeah. No, we had a bad experience at Happy Valley where it was like We were like somehow some second class citizens, even though there wasn’t a lot of people there. I remember we were sitting in the sunshine that day, but it was just kind of a crud experience and then we were kind of like, yeah And the yeah, the menu hadn’t quite rotated much.

Scarlet
No, it does it didn’t really change seasonally.

Mitchell
And what was once great became mundane. And while they had some good wines, there wasn’t like a lot of good wines or I don’t know. Yeah.

Scarlet
Yeah. So we ended up stopping that one. I think we just kind of like zeroed out our balance and just like bought wine and then canceled.

Mitchell
Yeah. So

Scarlet
So then and then we like didn’t really do a bunch of why we went to Joe Dobbs or Dobbs.

Mitchell
Yeah, it’s Dobbs.

Scarlet
Um, sorry, you were looking over there. Um

Mitchell
trying not to make eye contact.

Scarlet
With Brock. I I mean sorry, with Beck. Um Yeah, I don’t know.

We haven’t done a bunch of wine tasting, but then I saw Lucid Wild on TikTok. And it looked really bougie and exclusive. And you kept insisting we had been there before.

And I’m like and I was like, I’m pretty sure you’re thinking of the Willamette Valley Vineyards tasting room in Dundee that’s kind of set up on a hill where we went for a tasting w during the day one time. it did look kind of similar ish. But

Mitchell
had a similar layout.

Scarlet
Yeah.

Mitchell
Well it was the parking lot that felt very vaguely familiar to me. But it remember it used to be Bella Vida. So that’s why I was like, did we try I that’s why I kept thinking maybe we tried to do it.

Scarlet
But that was like the house the house to the site of it. I’m not arguing.

Mitchell
I was just saying like Something about it was which could maybe be I was in another another life. I was a vintner. Is that a person that makes wine?

A winemaker? Oh, Ventner grows them, I think. Okay, doesn’t matter.

I’m saying there was a vague familiarity that I couldn’t shake that was disturbing. Maybe Christian and I were hanging out there. Maybe at some point.

I don’t remember.

Scarlet
So I booked it for our anniversary. Well you worked on our anniversary, so we went the Sunday before our anniversary. And I was wondering why the tasting fee was so much, but I was it was like 75 a person, but I’m like, whatever, we’re gonna go, we’re gonna do it. But I mean they pair food and the wine with like each, you know, that’s how they do their tasting, and that’s the only vine or at least that’s the only vineyard. I of all the ones we’ve been to where they do like a food and a wine pairing.

Mitchell
Right.

Scarlet
Which was like s which was so good.

Mitchell
It was.

Scarlet
And of course, like by the end we’re several hundred dollars in and now members of Lucid Wild.

Mitchell
Yes.

Scarlet
Yeah.

Mitchell
They didn’t even bring that up. You brought it up to the person by the way. They didn’t push anything about membership. Member At some point you’re like, no, we’re considering the bigger.

Scarlet
I mean they push a book on the table.

Mitchell
Right, right. But they always never talk about oh and just by the way, if you guys become members, like sh which I felt good. She wasn’t pushing anything. I never feel like You know, they were like, Yeah, if that’s where your plan is, I’m sure they were just like thinking we were, you know, doing just our tasting, but I mean, and the membership covers you for a coup the one we have, a couple tastings for what Twice a year. Mm-hmm.

Scarlet
I think so.

Mitchell
On our level. And then up to and we got six bottles. So it’s still Expensive, but I mean not outrageous.

To me. And you were like, I know you like your wine. So you were like, I’m full steam ahead.

This is perfect. And I was very impressed. And everything about it was oh actually so in the grounds, everything there’s very beautiful and the um you know the pr the opportunity there’s a speakeasy there that you can get into if you know the password and you’re a member and some of that kind of fun stuff and I think w one of the cool things was Well they they packaged up our bottles, put ’em in the car, and then later you hadn’t even I don’t was days later, I was like, I wanna see what one of these bottles didn’t even know that the bottles were individually hand wrapped with a wax seal and placed in like all these it was like oh so they did not fail to impress on many levels like their service was not just lipstick.

It was pretty like quality. Everything was like, oh wow. So we’ll see how this uh pans out.

So

Scarlet
yeah, by the way, I did figure out the way to figure out their events is just go on to um what is it reserve and you can just scroll and they’ll

Mitchell
have a fall event for which we get two tickets.

Scarlet
Okay.

Mitchell
And I assume fall is now, unless it just happened. That’s why I was like, we should find out what the fall event is, or if they emailed you. Anyway.

Scarlet
But like, you know, right now they have like a I was just looking. I was but I was like, oh my gosh, that’s a little too pricey for us. Um

Mitchell
Well there’s this uh but you still haven’t found out about the fall event. Have you I I was gonna join the website and log in But I was like, you have the email address that you use which is different than the one that we use to establish. Which is fine. But I have

Scarlet
I haven’t gotten any any emails yet.

Mitchell
Okay You got at least one and you could join on that email. But

Scarlet
well one event is Lucid Wild plus um Hayaku Amakasi experience, which is October first through the fourth. 5 p. m. and a 7:30. It’s a 16 course omakase. Lucid Wild Club members, 300 per guest.

Mitchell
Okay.

Scarlet
I don’t know if that means we get two tickets and then it’s three hundred additional per guest or

Mitchell
some fall event. In spring. These are I mean I don’t know.

Scarlet
No, I think I think that’s still three hundred.

Mitchell
If you’re still listening to the show, folks while we hash out what uh we don’t actually know about our new wine club membership. Or if you know

Scarlet
Still figuring it out.

Mitchell
Send us a direct message on Instagram at LessCatsPlease. Or you can send in feedback. But

Scarlet
anyways, like if you want to make a comment on what you want to go to a bougie wine tasting Look up Loofs and Wild, look at the pictures, the grounds are beautiful. They have like it’s a huge estate. They have like farm animals that you can feed.

Mitchell
Right. Um

Scarlet
Yeah, they have the Sky Terrace where you can do a tasting. And if you become members, you can book like the wine cave and do like just a bottle service, or you can um Yeah, book the sp I think you can book the Speakeasy 2 and do bottle service as well.

Mitchell
I think they’re open what I looked Thursday through Monday or something. Yeah. I think they included Monday and I was like, oh that I mean we’re both work every Monday, but I was like, oh this is kinda like a little different because you s you get too used to no weekdays on some places, so That was also interesting.

Yeah, they do like um I mean you know more about it than I do, but you haven’t mentioned like it’s um I don’t want to call it just organic. It’s like there’s something a bigger picture here where they Like the animals they use are to help clear the ground covering in w during some other part of the season. So everything’s like green and uh, you know, planet forward or whatever the right word is, right?

In like the water and what they reclaim. So it’s kinda like that’s also part of their um whatever you want to call it, their appeal is they’re not just like mm cranking wine out through a machine and doing all sorts of stuff. I think they hand harvest their grapes, like which may not be entirely unusual in Oregon, but they are like very like forward on the whole like environmental, organic, green, I don’t know what all the right words are here.

But you know what I’m saying? Isn’t that true? Or am I making this up?

Scarlet
No, I that’s what she said.

Mitchell
‘Cause like I was like, oh what are the animals? She’s like, oh no, they have a whole herd of whatever that they’re jumping out.

Scarlet
Like they had the two sheep downstairs that we got to go meet, popcorn and Rambo. Oh Rambo.

Mitchell
Was it popcorn Uh one of them was Rambo. I’m pretty sure, yeah. John Rambo.

But they had the yeah, so they’re they everything had a goal and a purpose and and like you were starting to say The wine country uh license plate here in Oregon is based off of a view from the um Lucid Wilds Winery. Looking at some other hills. And a barrel.

We saw the barrel.

Scarlet
We saw the barrel.

Mitchell
Wow. Anyway. Wow. Okay.

Scarlet
Well excuse mommy and daddy for fighting. Everybody, sorry.

Mitchell
I’m not re-recording yet another episode.

Scarlet
I know we’re not. We’re not. Awkward.

Mitchell
I’ve been thinking about pulling one of those out though. Scrounging up some of the juicy bits. Not the other parts.

But anyway. Well, what else? That’s it.

I mean we’ve over we’ve overshot our time. Which it’s okay. No, I’m not upset.

Do I sound upset?

Scarlet
Although ever since we I’m afraid I’m I don’t know. Ever since we even talked about I don’t think we had anything to do with Cascade’s popularity. It was just a matter of time, but it’s like I think that place was exploded because Sydney went there the other day and she was just like, Yeah, it was a great time. I just wish it weren’t so crowded And she went on a weekday?

Mitchell
Oh no.

Scarlet
And I was like, ugh Oh no. I wonder where it’s at now.

Mitchell
Oh, that does worry me. I know. I wonder what the one down in Bend is like.

Scarlet
And you would think they Because you have to book a reservation. They would do some what’s the word I’m looking for?

Mitchell
I don’t know. Um like logistics math or like

Scarlet
Yeah, like oh we’re only gonna let X amount of people in at a time because obviously, you know, there’s only so much space in all those saunas and Uh you know, tubs and the sanctuary. Yeah.

Mitchell
Yeah, that would be interesting to know.

Scarlet
I don’t know

Mitchell
Well, but I wonder what her idea of busy is or crowded. I mean I don’t know, you know. Everyone has a different threshold.

Scarlet
I don’t know.

Mitchell
You know. But okay.

Scarlet
But hopefully we’ll be going back soon.

Mitchell
That’s the plan. Well, anything else? No.

Scarlet
Nope.

Mitchell
Okay.

Scarlet
Until next time. I’m Scarlet.

Mitchell
And I’m Mitchell

Scarlet
And we’re

Mitchell
doing the most.

Scarlet
Bye
